The voxanalysis
package uses standardized data
definitions, which are applied consistently across package documentation
and the VOX Analysis Application.
VOX Analysis
A Verbal Operant Experimental Analysis assesses language development balance in a speaker to help identify autism spectrum disorder. In this process, a listener records responses during verbal episodes (often play therapy). These recordings are entered into the VOX Analysis Application, which then runs measurements and generates data visualizations to evaluate language development balance.
VOX Analysis Application
An R Shiny application included in the voxanalysis
package. Users without R programming experience can use this application
to record evaluation results and generate reports.
Evaluation
A play therapy session in which the listener engages with the speaker to elicit responses.
Listener
The individual who interacts with the speaker during the evaluation. This may be a behavioral analyst, therapist, or clinician trained to conduct the evaluation.
Response Type
Also known as a (or verbal operant), this is a type of response, commonly abbreviated as “CLEaR,” which stands for:
- Conversing: The speaker’s ability to engage in conversation with the listener. For instance, the listener might prompt the speaker to finish a sentence (e.g., “You eat an…”) or answer a question (e.g., “What do you eat?”).
- Labeling: The speaker’s ability to name an object. For example, the listener might ask the speaker to identify a referent (e.g., “What are you holding?”).
- Echoing: The speaker’s ability to repeat a phrase spoken by the listener. The listener might prompt the speaker to echo a word (e.g., “Say ‘apple’…”).
- Requesting: The speaker’s ability to ask for something. The listener might remove a referent to prompt the speaker to request it back.
